Maintenance Technician

 

Basic Function: Set up and maintain industrial machinery.

Significant Responsibilities:

  • Setting-up and/or assembling new machinery per specifications.
  • Observing machines or equipment (for visual and audio signs) to diagnose malfunctions and determine necessary adjustments and/or repairs. Studying blueprints, sketches, machine parts, or specifications to determine appropriate repairs.  Assembling and testing operating machines to verify the correction of malfunctions.
  • Dismantling and reassembling machines or equipment to replace defective parts as required.
  • Performing scheduled preventive maintenance on machinery. Completing paperwork on parts used and repairs made.
  • Maintaining and lubricating machine tools and equipment as required.
  • Conducting all activities following the safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Utilizing and following quality policy and operating procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of the job performance.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience:   1-3 years related experience and/or training preferred.   MT1 and/or industrial maintenance certification is desirable.  Military and Technical skills and training will be considered in Lieu of field experience.       

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:   Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a variety of machine tools, assemble parts to fabricate or repair machine tools, and proper maintenance of machinery.  Ability to read and follow complex instructions, ability to understand and implement quality procedures.  Math and handwriting skills and the ability to complete correctly all documentation.  Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.   Attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and help resolve problems. Ability to operate a forklift and aerial Work platform. Basic Electrical, hydraulic, and Pneumatic skills will be used daily. Machining and fabrication skills are a plus. The ability to create Electrical and Mechanical drawings are also essential skills.

Working Conditions:  While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and must be reasonably ambulatory.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.  This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communication with employees, and vendors and awareness of alarms.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.

SAFETY:   Work under company protocol regarding safe work practices. Training for machine-specific diagnostics, lock-out, and tag-out Procedures will be provided. Electrical knowledge and training will be required for live diagnostic work on equipment. Proper PPE will be required and provided when required. Proper training will be provided for pre-job Min’s – hot work and related practices. Pre-job minis will be done any time the work is beyond the scope of normal work routines.

General Assembler – Asheville

Basic Function:

Assembles basic production parts according to work instructions and pick list using hand tools, pneumatic press and by operating the bagger machine.

Significant Responsibilities: 

Performs specific job responsibilities:

    • Assemble parts according to work instructions and assembly drawings checking pick list to insure all parts are included.
    • Recognize discrepancies on assemblies and reports to Team Leader or Supervisor.
    • Perform all tasks in Work Center 3 (kit assembly), 18 (auto bagger), 2 (patch panels), 4 (fiber boxes) and 15 (small cabinets).
    • Correctly interpret assembly drawings
    • Use proper hand tools for assemblies and works with a sense of urgency to meet the time allotted for work order. Operate pneumatic  press
    • Operate hand power tools – rivet gun and driver
    • Operate bagger machine and change bags and ribbons. Enter required information into bagger computer keyboard

Job Scope:

  • Assembler and bagger of parts
  • Communicates  with the Team Leader or Supervisor for instruction or to report defects
  • Takes care and caution using tools and assembles correctly to preserve the quality of the components
  • Proper judgment and caution used to avoid errors that would render the assembly as scrap.  Scrap dollars are accounted for and affect company financials
  • Strictly follows ISO and safety policies and procedures

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:  High School Diploma or GED

Experience:  1 or more years in a related field desirable

Licensure, Certification and/or Registration:  NA

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills; sight sufficient to complete work accurately and to read/understand written instructions.

 

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Ability to read work instructions and assembly drawings.  Use hand tools and power hand tools. Use pneumatic press and bagging machine. Ability to work in a team setting with minimal supervision.     Computer knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.

 

Working Conditions:  While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit for prolonged periods of time (duration of work day).  Must be able to lift 30 lbs regularly. Full range of motion is required including stretching, bending, stooping. Noise level is moderate and employee should be able to hear an approaching forklift, machines and alarms.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions. Fumes are moderate and an employee should be able to work in the manufacturing environment.

 

Additional on-the-job experience and training:  once General Assembler has been accomplished the employee may focus on training in least one additional category.   An employee can continue learning skill sets in each category in their entirety until all four have been accomplished. Each skill set category accomplished moves the employee into a higher pay grade.   The additional skill set categories are:

Copper Cable and Patch Cords:  Assemble and test copper cable, Hydra, Patch Cords and Quad Box

Machine Operator:  Set up and operate machines for various jacks and 110 connectors using work instructions. Test parts at recommended intervals

Printed Circuit Board Assembly: Assemble and test printed circuit boards

Fiber, MT and Pre-term Assembly:  Assemble and test fiber assemblies and pre-term cabinets

Production Supervisor – Days

Production Supervisor

 

Basic Function:  The Production Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for the effective operation of a production shift which includes multiple operating units.  Effectively leads assigned teams’ production efforts as well as operates on the line (as needed) with a focus on quality.  Trains, develops, and schedules employees and work for maximum efficiency.  May work rotating day/night shift.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

 Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Understands and executes the production plans to meet goals; uses metrics set for the business unit to monitor progress.
  • Works closely with the BUL’s and planning team to identify and schedule production lines, engineering, and quality resources as needed.
  • Coordinates and allocates manpower to optimize production; communicates daily expectations and ensures operators have the tools to meet the expectations.
  • Ensures that all employees are supported and that their process/quality issues or concerns are managed proactively and effectively to meet plans and goals.
  • Ensures team members adhere to plant policies including safety, attendance, PTO scheduling
  • Identifies gaps and provides support on the line where and when needed.
  • Navigate Syspro (ERP system) to effectively move WIP and raw materials.
  • Troubleshoots to ensure that products meet required specifications.
  • Promotes standardization through workplace organization & visual controls (5S)
  • Coordinates and communicates with other shifts for seamless transitions and minimal disruption to workflow.

Job Scope:

  • Managerial:  Manages the flow of product throughout the production floor by supervising a team/shift of operators.
  • Communication:  Communicates with fellow supervisors and leaders in other departments to understand production needs and expectations
  • Confidentiality: A high level of confidentiality is required regarding corporate initiatives, customer matters, and employee issues. 
  • Financial:  Operate and manage a fiscally responsible team and maintain reasonable expenses; must evaluate the potential returns on investment before committing to purchases.  Respond to the Finance team’s request for information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Judgment:  Errors can impact the efficiency of on-time orders, general quality, employee morale
  • Compliance:  Responsible for SOX compliance as it pertains to the teams’ work processes; responsible for understanding, following, and administering corporate policies.  Compliant with operational procedures including ISO and OSHA/Safety.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:  Associate degree in business, electronics, engineering or related field preferred.  An equivalent combination of knowledge and experience will be considered.  Bachelor degree in a related field is preferred but not required

Experience:  3-5 years’ operating extrusion, cabling, or other manufacturing equipment with experience serving in a leadership capacity (formal or informal).  WCM/Lean/Six Sigma, ERP, ISO, Safety, and/or engineering experience desirable.

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Effective interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to be a team member, to lead/train/motivate a team, and to communicate expectations/hold individuals accountable.  Demonstrated ability to lead change and implement continuous improvement and resolve complex operational/personnel situations.  Demonstrated a history of making positive contributions to an organization as a leader.  Mechanical aptitude with the ability to review specifications, set up, run, and monitor a machine in a production environment.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Operate independently with little direct supervision; involve management staff appropriately.  Participate in management and leadership-level meetings.  Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint with minimal support.  Maintain interpersonal relationships through appropriate and concise communication, oral and written.  Use math and critical thinking skills to correctly complete all documentation required for team reporting and compliance obligations.  Understand, follow, and administer policies, especially those related to quality and compliance.  Attend to detail in completing assignments and documentation.  Prioritize workload effectively.

Basic Function:

Final inspection of finished products in accordance with policies, procedures, work instructions, customer requirements, military/government and industry standards.

  • Inspects products for length, breaks, and attenuation using OTDR equipment; test based on priority
  • Ensures the product has been manufactured to requirements; identifies defects and problems resulting from the production process
  • Evaluate data to validate compliance or identify deviations from existing standards
  • Ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete
  • Complete detailed documentation and reports of all Inspection activities in accordance with OCC policy and Customer specified requirements; including  Defective Material / Non-conforming Material notices; Coordinate disposition of affected material
  • Support implementation of data collection projects thru the online Syspro system

This is a quality position that requires sight sufficient for computer use and significant detail for inspection.  This position also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for telephone contact with employees and management as well as relaying messages accurately.  There are significant computer input/data entry duties that require sufficient manual dexterity for handling small fiber optic products, tools, and instruments.
