Engineering Technician – Test Lab – DAYSHIFT

Basic FunctionPerforms environmental and mechanical testing of optical cables, cable assemblies, and components.  Provides test, inspection, and analytical support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Quality Assurance departments.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental and mechanical tests on cables and assemblies in accordance with industry, corporate, and military standards and procedures.
  • Understand and apply industrial, corporate, and military standards and procedures to test efforts.
  • Use computers and peripherals to obtain, organize, and correctly interpret significant amounts of data.
  • Produce computer-based test reports in logical and meaningful formats to effectively convey findings and results to other individuals and departments.
  • Troubleshoot test setups and catastrophic failures for root causes (able to locate bad splices, suspect optical interfaces, bad alignment sleeves, misconfigured equipment, computer malfunctions, etc.)
  • Perform inspections, testing, and analysis in support of customer complaints, return material authorizations, and root cause analysis.
  • Support Production efforts by performing required inspections, analysis, tests, and cable annealing processes (high-temperature soaks).

Job Scope:

  • Performs tests as directed by the Test Lab Supervisor and generates associated reports.
  • Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills.  Such skills will be essential in discussing and clarifying test requirements and in generating lab reports
  • Test programs, cable samples, and associated results are OCC and/or customer-proprietary and, as a result, must be handled accordingly.
  • Results of tests and associated reports are used by other departments and personnel to better improve production efforts, support sales and marketing efforts, or qualify products for shipment.
  • Test efforts are to be performed in accordance with industry, corporate, or military requirements as defined in applicable standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Minimal travel to outside test facilities and other OCC divisions may be required in support of programs and projects.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education: Associate degree in engineering or an associated technical discipline, and/or 1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation and measurements, or an associated field.                 

Experience:  1-3 years of hands-on experience in electro-optics, fiber optics, instrumentation, and measurements, or an associated field.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:  None required.  Although certification in fiber optics handling (or equivalent) could be beneficial.                              

Other Minimum Qualifications:  Computer proficiency (especially in Word and Excel).  Detail oriented.  Able to read, comprehend, and perform tests according to standards and procedures.

 

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:  Work must be accurate, complete and without critical errors.  Communicates effectively verbally and in written form.  Computer proficiency especially in Word (tabs, tables, formatting) and Excel (formulas).  Good mathematical skills.  Works well with others.  Able to work in a team environment.  Able to read, comprehend, and perform tests according to industrial standards, procedures, and military specifications.  Detail oriented and able to help resolve problems and resource conflicts.  Works in a safety conscientious manner.  Provides willing support to supervisor and other internal and external customers.  Perform duties with minimal supervision.  Willingness to work some overtime and weekend hours as needed.

Working Conditions:  Employee is regularly required to perform tasks in a standing and a sitting position.  Must be reasonably ambulatory.  Cable and fiber preparation requires manual dexterity using hands and fingers to handle, feel, and manipulate optical fibers and associated inspection equipment including hand-held and desktop microscopes.   This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer usage.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.  This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communication with coworkers.

Basic Function:  The primary responsibility of the Quality Coordinator is to provide administrative support to Quality in compliance with ISO 9001:2015. This position will also be required to participate, as needed, in the efforts to prevent, detect, report, correct, or cause to be corrected the production of non-conforming material or product through routine conduct of audits/inspection at all stages of production.

  • Assists with data collection for Management Review and Pillar Boards.
  • Acts as backup Inspector, as needed.

Production Planner

Basic Function:  Provides production scheduling and materials planning for OCC Asheville.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the daily priorities between production, sales, and inventory control.
  • Comply with and maintain corporate lead time objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety stock levels in the MRP system.
  • Assist with setting safety stock levels, as directed by the manager.
  • Analyze and identify component, sub-assembly, and finished good stock levels.
  • Generate work orders for the production floor.
  • Review all BOMs and drawings for accuracy prior to the release to production.

Basic Function:  The Administrative Assistant maintains a professional, functional, and clean environment throughout the office building, manages the reception area, and performs administrative functions for the various teams located in the facility, including sales, business development, marketing, and human resources.

    • Greets and directs visitors appropriately, professionally, and with attention to employee safety and building security; handles incoming calls professionally;
    • Maintains the front desk and lobby area to promote a professional environment;
    • Serves as the primary contact for vendors providing building support: coordinating janitorial staff, contacting and scheduling regular maintenance of the facility; contacting and scheduling emergency services as needed.  Vendors include HVAC, electricians, plumbing, and others providing office equipment support;

    • Ensures that conference rooms, break rooms, and restroom supplies are replenished for regular use;

    • Provides HR and employee support by coordinating special events (obtaining quotes and ordering food and supplies, posting employee notices, scheduling team members to help in set up and tear down).

Accounts Payable Administrator

Accounts Payable Administrator – DALLAS

 

Basic Function:  Responsible for all Accounts Payable processes for Dallas location.

 

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Accurately processes invoices, credit card statements, check requests, and other payment requests for payment within proper timeframes: performs verification of invoice or AP document accuracy by comparing pertinent documentation; communicates with purchasing and receiving departments as needed to resolve issues; obtains appropriate approvals on invoices; codes invoices with correct general ledger account number; enters invoices into the AP system; files invoices per the filing system.
  • Coordinates and tracks pertinent vendor information: responds to vendor inquiries; forwards new or edited vendor information to the Accounting Supervisor for input into the system.
  • Select checks for payment with communication to OCC-Roanoke.
  • Prepares or assists with preparing monthly and quarterly journal entries related to AP. Prepares or assists with preparing quarterly work papers related to AP.
  • Generates reports on a routine basis.

Job Scope:

  • Managerial:  None
  • Communication:  Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written skills.  Candidate must be able to give full attention to others, taking time to understand points being made and asking questions as appropriate.  Candidate must be able to communicate with internal and external customers, exchanging information in person, in writing, or by telephone or email.
  • Confidentiality:  All documentation and paperwork is confidential to OCC
  • Financial:  Follows ISO, ITAR, and SOX procedures in accurately completing financial information.
  • Judgment: High level of judgment and decision-making required within accounting guidelines and Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.  Refers appropriate issues to Supervisor.
  • Travel: None

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:  Associate Degree in Accounting or 5 years of Accounts Payable transaction processing experience.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: 

This position requires excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Windows applications (Word and Excel).  Able to research and investigate to resolve invoice and Purchase Order problems.  Familiar with working in an environment with SOX policies.  Familiar with or able to learn an ERP system.  Experience with manufacturing companies dealing with inventory transactions and a three-way match process.  Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.  Excellent oral and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely.  Good analytical and mathematical skills and general overall knowledge of basic accounting principles.
